The program recognizes outstanding achievement in musical theatre production and performance among high school students. The program's goal remains bringing together high school musical theatre programs in metropolitan Kansas City and outlying areas to recognize and celebrate outstanding talent among the area youth. By participating in the Blue Star Awards Program, students receive feedback from working professionals and interact on a creative level with their high school peers from across the metropolitan area.
