Vincent Legacy Scholarship

Jacob Moses

Since 2006, Starlight has proudly awarded Vincent Legacy Scholarships to middle school students throughout metropolitan Kansas City. Established with a generous contribution from longtime Starlight supporters Greg and Rebecca Reid, the scholarships provide BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth with funds to pursue professional training and experience the life-expanding possibilities of the performing arts.

To qualify, students in grades six, seven and eight must display talent and passion for the performing arts, have a strong interest in community service, and audition for the selection committee at Starlight.

Each $2,500 Vincent Legacy Scholarship is administered by the Starlight Community Engagement Department, and funds are applied to the scholarship recipients’ performing arts training during their middle and high school years.

The 2023-24 Vincent Legacy Scholarship application is now closed. For more information, contact education@kcstarlight.com.

Vincent Legacy Scholarship winners for 2023

Ashlynn Hampton (not pictured)
Ashlynn is a student at Grandview Middle School. For her audition, Ashlynn performed “Part of Your World” and also did an Ursula monologue from “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.” Through her training, she hopes to improve her breath control for vocal performances.

Elliana Hishaw
Elliana attends Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Middle School. At the auditions, Elliana performed “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana.” Last year, Elliana was cast in The Coterie’s production of “Akeelah and the Bee.”

Garrett Webster II
Garrett is a student at Plaza Middle School. For his audition, Garrett sang, “Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me).” He has taken piano lessons previously, and through the scholarship, he is interested in taking acting classes to help him become a well-rounded “renaissance man.”

Jacob Moses
Jacob attends Sumner Academy of Arts & Science. For his audition, Jacob performed two contrasting monologues. He loves the process of acting and meeting new people, and enjoys seeing how each person has their own unique approach to the art.

Nevaeh Robinson
Nevaeh is a student at Sumner Academy of Arts & Science. For her audition, Nevaeh performed a monologue she wrote herself. She is interested in acting and dancing, but would also like to learn an instrument or explore costume and makeup design.
