Hogan Students Participate in Starlight on Site
‘I was afraid to speak in front of people, but now I’m not.’
Congratulations to students at Hogan Preparatory Academy Middle School who participated in this year’s Starlight on Site program. The students began rehearsing after school in the spring with Starlight Theatre teaching artists that included a director and musical director/choreographer.
Their hard work culminated into a showcase performance in April that included song and dance numbers from popular Broadway musicals. Special thanks to Saint Therese Little Flower for donating the performance space.
Starlight on Site was developed in order to build community partnership between Starlight and neighboring schools. It is a free program underwritten by Starlight Theatre. The course offers training and exposure to the world of musical theatre to seventh and eighth grade students. It is designed to enhance student self-confidence, improve academic and social skills, and generate a love and appreciation of musical theatre.
“You know the program is effective when you overhear a student on the last day announce ‘I was afraid to speak in front of people, but now I’m not,’ ” said Amy Reinert, Education and Outreach Director. “Starlight on Site gives kids a chance to explore the world of musical theatre. ”
