Starlight Theatre has been awarded the prestigious 2013 Venue Excellence Award by the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), the world’s largest professional association dedicated to the management of public assembly venues. Starlight was acknowledged as the best of the best in the Performing Arts Center category.
The Venue Excellence Awards recognize venues such as stadiums, convention centers, arenas, performing arts centers, and academic institutions that demonstrate excellence in the following four criteria: service to the community, team building/professional development, safety and security, and operational excellence.
“Starlight Theatre is thrilled to receive the 2013 Venue Excellence Award. To be recognized by our peers around the world is an incredible honor,” said Russ Welsh, chairman of the board of Starlight Theatre. “Starlight is both visionary and strategic in meeting the criteria for all four operational excellence attributes of this award.
“For 63 years, Starlight has been a leader in all areas of excellence thanks to the incredible work and support of volunteers, staff members, donors, audiences and the entire Kansas City community,” Welsh said. “While many venues do some things well, it’s rare to find a venue consistently clearing, then raising, the bar in all areas the way Starlight Theatre does. The 2013 Venue Excellence Award is a testament to how well Starlight Theatre gets the job done - delighting guests, fulfilling our mission, providing world-class entertainment for families, and offering diverse educational and community outreach programs."
Other 2013 Venue Excellence Award winners were: Arenas – INTRUST Bank Arena, Wichita, Kansas; Convention Centers/Exhibit Halls: Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida; Stadiums: Georgia Dome, Atlanta Georgia; Venue Education Award: Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., Toronto, Ontario Canada.
“Each winning venue epitomizes what we all strive for in our organizations – a shared sense of purpose and vision with collaboration and innovation at the forefront,” said Vicki Hawarden, 2013 Venue IAVM President and CEO. The International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) has more than 4,100 members worldwide. Founded in 1924 as the Auditorium Managers Association, IAVM is the world's largest professional association dedicated to issues relevant to the management of public assembly venues.
