Two area high school students, honored by Starlight Theatre’s Blue Star Awards for their theatrical achievements, are in New York City through Tuesday to compete in the National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA).

Maggie Marx and Austin Dalgleish are graduates of Shawnee Mission Northwest and Shawnee Mission East, respectively. They were recognized at the 2015 Blue Star Awards Ceremony for their schools’ productions of “Little Shop of Horrors.” Marx was named Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role for her performance as Audrey, while Dalgleish was honored as Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role for his portrayal of Seymour.

The pair are taking part in NHSMTA and preparing to appear on a Broadway stage.  Leading up to the annual event, students spend five days rehearsing and working with professional mentors. At the ceremony, presented Monday at the Minskoff Theatre (home to The Lion King), contestants will perform and select finalists will present solos.
