3 Cheers for Jan Morevitska’s 50 Years of Volunteer Service
At Starlight Theatre during the week of Love Never Dies, current and past Starlight staff and Starlight Ambassadors took time to cheer more than the show. They kicked off the week by celebrating one dedicated individual – Jan Morevitska of Overland Park, Kan. – who has volunteered at Starlight for half a century. That’s right, 50 years and Jan’s still SHINING and SERVING in multiple volunteer capacities at our theatre!
Over the five decades since she joined the Starlight Women’s Committee in 1969 (which later became the Starlight Ambassadors in 1993), Jan has supported Starlight in so many ways. She is our go-to volunteer for daytime venue and backstage tours, steps up to lead special events like cast parties and auditions, serves on the Ambassador Advisory Team each season, helps to maintain Starlight’s historical archives and so much more.
In recognition of her service, Jan has been crowned Starlight’s Ambassador of the Year three times. And, in 2011, along with the love of her life and fellow Starlight volunteer, husband Lee, she received a prestigious national honor – the Star of Touring Broadway Award from The Broadway League.
To thank her for her selfless and stellar support of Starlight, this week we tangibly showed Jan that our “love never dies” by giving the on-site Morevitska Room (a space where all volunteers gather when working Starlight event events) an HGTV-style makeover complete with new furniture and décor, fresh paint, a full-wall mural and a custom-designed illustration of the room’s namesakes, Jan and Lee. We also will install a permanent bronze plaque commemorating Jan’s unmatched volunteer service inside Gate 3 before the 2019 Broadway season begins.
We thank Jan for all of the love she has given to Starlight. Here’s to the next 50 years!
