Apply for Vincent Legacy Scholarships by March 26

Starlight Theatre is again offering an outstanding scholarship opportunity for ethnically diverse students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Qualified Kansas City middle-school students are encouraged to apply for a Vincent Legacy Scholarship by Monday, March 26. This is the 13th year Starlight has provided need-based scholarships to area youth with performance dreams!

Longtime Starlight supporters and community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid created the Vincent Legacy Scholarship Fund at Starlight in 2006. In memory of Greg’s son, Vincent, the Reids established the scholarship endowment fund to provide youth who demonstrate performing arts promise, strong academic achievement and good citizenship the opportunity to refine and improve their performance skills through professional instruction. To date, 32 scholarships with a total value of $77,500 have been awarded.

In addition to meeting ethnic and financial criteria, students must show a passion for the performing arts, maintain an academic achievement level equal or greater than a “B” (3.0) grade level, attend school regularly with no unexcused absences, and demonstrate an interest in community service.

All applications received by the March 26 deadline will be reviewed, and a limited number of finalists will be invited to audition at Starlight Theatre on April 22. In May, Starlight will award two or more scholarships, each paying for $2,500 of dance, voice and/or acting training for the scholarship recipients.

The 2017 Vincent Legacy Scholarship winners were Carwin Cooper, a student at Arrowhead Middle School in Kansas City, Kan.; Lauren Howard of Bernard Campbell Middle School in Lee’s Summit; and Bianka Morgan, who attended Kansas City Academy.
