Last month we revived an ongoing weekly Twitter series, #MusicalMonday. Each week we’ll share a song from a different musical circulating around a common theme for the month!
Now a days, some of the biggest blockbuster movies are based on characters found in comic books, the funnies or graphic novels. November’s #MusicalMonday looked back at musical adaptations of stories that jumped from the newspaper page to a Broadway stage.
Below is a sample from last month’s selected songs.
Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair. Whether you’re keen to fly with the Red Baron, moon over the Moonlight Sonata, or just do your best to find “Happiness,” You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a musical for everyone.
The Addams family have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, morbid daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations - change.
With a perfect combination of street-smarts and optimism, Annie warms the hearts of the audience as we witness her rise from next-to-nothing in New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage years ago. Though things don’t quite work out the way she has planned, she does manage to thwart the plans of the evil Miss Hannigan and find a new family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell, and her lovable pooch, Sandy.
It seems like a typical day in Metropolis: some bank robbers attempt to knock over the local vault, Superman flies out of the sky and captures them, and the citizens feel wonderfully safe. But there are darker plots brewing.
