CATEGORY: Engage

When WaterFire KC ignites the Country Club Plaza’s night on Oct. 10-11, the Starlight STARS of Tomorrow will be among the local performers kicking off the celebration in high style. They will take the festival stage at 8:30 p.m. on Friday to perform their 2014 Broadway show medley, featuring show tunes from The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, We Will Rock You and more.

Starlight’s teen performance troupe is part of WaterFire’s opening night celebration of Kansas City’s jazz and blues roots. Other local arts groups scheduled to perform include the the Barn Players, Coterie, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, Musical Theatre Heritage, Spinning Tree,  Theater League, Unicorn, and White Theatre at the JCC.

The 8th annual WaterFire takes place along Brush Creek on the Plaza and is centered on the installation of fire pits by internationally renowned visual artist Barnaby Evans. The 2014 festival was expanded to two nights, plus Saturday daytime activities, in order to meet two of Mayor Sly James’ KCMO Arts Convergence goals: create a signature festival focused on the region’s artists and cultural organizations, and provide more comprehensive education to area residents about available arts and cultural activities and resources.

Starlight encourages you to bring a chair or blanket to the Plaza this weekend and enjoy all that Kansas City’s performing arts community has to offer!
