A Tony Month of May

CATEGORY: Broadway

If seeing Tony Award®-winning musicals tops your wish list, you’ll want to spend the month of May at Starlight Theatre!

ONCE

The 2016 Broadway season at Starlight kicks off May 20-22 with a weekend special engagement of ONCE. The winner of eight Tony Awards in 2012, including Best MusicalONCE is a truly original Broadway experience. Based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film, this celebrated musical tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music.

Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful yet complicated romance. A musical celebration of life and love, ONCE features an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians who play their own instruments on stage.

Matilda The Musical

And before you fully come down from the Tony high of ONCE, another renowned new musical takes the stage at Starlight. Matilda The Musical, which is still playing on Broadway, makes its Kansas City premiere under the stars for five performances May 24-28.

TIME Magazine selected this innovative and acclaimed musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel as its No. 1 show of the year in 2013. That same year, Matilda took home four Tony Awards plus Tony Honors for Excellence in Musical Theatre for the four young actresses who played the title role.

Matilda tells the captivating story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her destiny.
