Katie – Electric Bass – Vocal range A3-D#5 (Pop/Rock)
Quiet and serious. Katie plays the cello, but switches to bass to fill out the band. Able to be energetic with a lot of rhythm and attitude. Must move well.
Freddy Hamilton – Drums – Vocal range A3-D5 (Pop/Rock)
Freddy loves a bit of rowdiness and noise, making him a great drummer. His working-class father doesn’t see his ability and belittles his son. Exceptional drum skills and outgoing personality.

SCHOOL OF ROCK AUDITION FAQs
No, not for the singing portion, you must provide music for piano in the proper key, pianist will not be transposing. For instrumental auditions you can bring a backing track.
Yes, rehearsals will be at Starlight Theatre, typically 10:00AM-6:30PM, until we get on stage and will rehearse 12:00-11:00PM.
Yes. You will learn ‘Stick It to The Man’ from School of Rock in addition to another song of your choice. We do not need your personal song to be played start to finish. Just 32 bars or so to show us your talent. This is your opportunity to really show us your skills so pick a great song and go for it. We may ask you to play your song of choice again during the call back so please make sure you know it.
Both. This production will have an orchestra band in the pit as well as actors performing live on stage. For the classroom songs, it will be just the instruments on stage playing. There are several songs performed outside of the classroom without instruments.
No. There are several “students” that will sing & dance only.
Yes, band members will also be singing during the show. There are several songs in the show that are more typical Broadway numbers for which everyone will sing and wear a microphone.
Yes. The current age range for children performing in this production is between 10 and 13 by the first rehearsal at the end of May. Our intention for this production is to cast youth that look the age of 11 – 13. The combined look of the student characters will be considered, so if you are 13 but will be 14 by the time rehearsals start you will also still be considered.
Sure! But please keep in mind that we may only call you back for one of your instruments.
At this stage we are looking to cast just the 13 children. However, if someone auditions for one of the instrumental parts and is not cast in that role, they may be cast as one of the other children if they sing and move well enough to serve as an understudy.
Yes, all roles will be singing, dancing and acting.
If you think you have the skills we are looking for and can pull off the appearance of a 13-year-old then we would happily have you audition. You are most aware of what you can do and how you look.
Yes, at this stage the ‘playing age’, ‘performance age’ or ‘stage age’ we are looking for in this production is 11 to 13. While some children may be younger or older than this age, we would like the cast to appear as if they are in this age range.
Yes, we will have some speakers available to use with digital media along with mini–stereo input. If your phone or device requires a dongle to adapt to a mini-stereo connector we ask that you bring that with you. We will also have an accompanist available who can play the sheet music provided if needed.
Cast members who play an instrument will have to demonstrate enough competence to be able to play their instruments as part of a live band, including solos. If you are unsure if you would be able to play in the band, we recommend listening to the soundtrack to get an idea of what would be required of you.
We always recommend you warm up before coming to an audition and maintain your voice while at the audition. It is never recommended that you audition without warming up vocally as you will be unlikely to perform at your best and could potentially hurt and damage your voice. There will be spaces available to warm-up onsite as needed.
