Just Announced – Your 2021 AdventHealth Broadway Season!
We’re excited to announce your 2021 AdventHealth Broadway Season! You may recognize a few shows in the lineup - we didn’t want Kansas Citians to miss out on these fantastic productions, and we’re thrilled that we were able to re-book a number of shows that had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic—in addition to two new, sensational Broadway hits. This premier line up of national Broadway tours kicks off in June with Escape to Margaritaville, the musical comedy hit featuring Jimmy Buffett classics in addition to original songs. Waitress, the heart-warming show with music by Sara Bareilles follows later that month, and the romantic and adventure-filled musical Anastasia brings patrons into July. Sister Act is sure to please in August with its original music by Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken, and the high-energy dance numbers in The Prom will round out the season in September. Amazon’s First Look At Heidi Schreck Tony-Winner
What The Constitution Means to Me, a 2017 Tony Award-nominated play written and performed by Heidi Schreck, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video this month. The show was filmed in its last week on Broadway in 2019 and pops back and forth between modern day and Shreck as a teenager, when she participated in Constitutional debate contests. She addresses a number of relevant topics including women’s rights, immigration and domestic abuse, and received critical acclaim on Broadway. The play won an Obie Award and a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, and was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. And, good news if you enjoy this production - Amazon has announced that it has signed a deal with Schreck to create content exclusively for their platform.
The Prom: First Look at Meryl Streep and More in Netflix's Star-Studded Adaptation of the Broadway Musical
2019 Tony Award nominee for Best Musical, The Prom, is coming to Netflix. The musical tells the story of a group of Broadway theatre veterans who band together to help a young woman fight for the right to bring her girlfriend to the high school prom. Director Ryan Murphy, known for his television hits like Glee, American Horror Story and Pose, has assembled a star-studded cast for the film version, including Meryl Streep, James Corden, Keegan-Michael Key, Kerry Washington, and more. The Prom is set for release on Netflix December 11, and the musical version was recently announced as part of the 2021 AdventHealth Broadway season at Starlight.
