Apply by March 17 for Community Tickets
The deadline for qualified local nonprofit organizations to apply for Starlight Theatre’s 2017 Community Ticket Program is this Friday, March 17.
Charitable organizations operating in Missouri and Kansas must complete the 2017 application and provide proof of their nonprofit status. Because supplies of free community tickets are limited, applications from charities that serve underprivileged and at-risk youth, the medically dependent and disabled, and low-income senior citizens receive priority consideration.
The Community Ticket Program has been a cornerstone of Starlight’s mission and community outreach since 1951. The theatre’s charter specifies that 364 free tickets be distributed to every performance of every Broadway show to groups that represent or serve individuals who would otherwise be unable to enjoy live performances due to economic, medical or other restrictive causes.
Starlight’s 2017 Broadway season includes 50 performance nights, so more than 18,000 free community tickets will be distributed.
In 2016, a total of 113 area nonprofits received Starlight community tickets for use by their residents, clients, members, families, staff and volunteers. Of that total, 13 were new to the program.
Leaders of the organizations served by the program are enthusiastic about the experience:
“We thank Starlight Theatre for its continued support of our senior adults by providing them the opportunity to experience social events each summer.”
-Lori Smith, Palestine Senior Activity Center
“The musicians and performers at Starlight will serve as role models. This is a good way for our students to see what their full potential can be.”
-Mary Ann Sawyer, Ruskin High School Symphonic Band
