The air is crisp, leaves are falling and high schools are gearing up to showcase their students’ theatrical talents.

‘Tis the season for high school fall musicals, and adjudicators from Starlight’s Blue Star Awards will soon fan out across Kansas City to see and critique the productions, doing so again in the spring.

“As we kick off the 13th year of the Blue Star Awards, everyone associated with this important Starlight program is thrilled to again celebrate the achievements and hard work that thousands of talented students and dedicated teachers put into their musical theatre programs,” said Amy Reinert, Starlight’s director of education and outreach.

Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, the Blue Star Awards are modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards®. During the 2014-15 school year, 47 area high schools will participate, and 56 musicals will be evaluated. Next May 21, the Blue Star Awards Ceremony on Starlight’s Cohen Community Stage will honor exceptional work in 22 award categories.

Starlight encourages all of its patrons to get out and about from October through April to see a high school musical or two or 56. From Belton to Blue Valley to Park Hill and 44 schools in between, outstanding young performers will sing, dance and act their way into your hearts – and possibly onto the Blue Star Awards list of nominees and winners!
