Broadway Musicals to be Featured in Behind-the-Scenes Miniseries for Lifetime

Be sure to set your DVRs for Lifetime’s morning show, “The Balancing Act.” The talk show has teamed up with touring Broadway for a series of six TV segments that will highlight musicals that are currently on the road or will launch within the year.

The new series, called “Broadway Balances America,” will showcase behind-the-scenes excerpts and interviews highlighting the Broadway tours of Dirty Dancing, Motown, Disney’s Newsies, Annie and Pippin. The show’s hosts will get up close and personal with cast and crew members, even experiencing what it’s like to dance in their shoes.

“We are so happy to take “The Balancing Act” viewers behind the scenes of the most popular Broadway shows, meeting some of the actors, directors and choreographers who bring it all to life,” said Jeanne Kelly, supervising producer for the new series. “These productions are hitting the road as their national tours get under way and heading to a stage near you. Everyone can now experience the excitement, music and magic that is Broadway right in their local community.”
Segments in “Broadway Balances America” will let audiences peek into aDirty Dancing rehearsal, go through a “Supreme” transformation backstage atMotown, fly through the air with the aerial acrobatics of Pippin, learn the quick steps with the lively stars of Disney’s Newsies and pull the curtain back on the audition process to show what it takes to play everyone’s favorite orphan in Annie. The final segment will take viewers into the Broadway Classroom, giving them an opportunity to see students being introduced to all elements of the Broadway industry.

The air dates for “Broadway Balances America” are:

  • Annie aired on Aug. 12 and 19 (watch the complete segment below)
  • Dirty Dancing on Sept. 9 and 16
  • Pippin on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5
  • Newsies on Nov. 6 and 13
  • Motown The Musical on Nov. 8 and 25
