Charitable organizations in Missouri and Kansas that are interested in participating in Starlight Theatre’s 2019 Community Ticket program must apply by Friday, March 15, and provide proof of their nonprofit status.
The Community Ticket program has been a cornerstone of Starlight’s mission and community outreach since 1951. To keep its performances accessible to all audiences, the theatre distributes up to 364 free tickets to each performance of every Broadway show to area nonprofits that serve individuals who would otherwise be unable to enjoy live performances due to economic, medical or life circumstances.
Applications from charities that represent underprivileged and at-risk youth, the medically dependent and disabled, and low-income senior citizens receive priority consideration.
Starlight’s 2019 Broadway season includes 37 performance nights, and nearly 13,000 free community tickets will be available.
In 2018, a total of 121 nonprofits received Starlight community tickets for use by their residents, clients, members, families, staff and volunteers. Twenty organizations were new to the program.
Group leaders who received community tickets last season extolled the value of the program:
“Each of our families has a child battling a life-threatening medical condition. Your shows allowed them to push all their worries aside and make memories together. Thank you for making HOPE a reality for these precious families!”
-Whitney Butler, program manager, HopeKids Kansas City
“We all enjoyed the show and the kindness of the employees who helped several of us using walkers. It was a beautiful evening out!”
-Bill and Pat Ross, Armour Oaks Senior Living
