Since 2006, Starlight has been helping young performers develop their unique gifts and experience the life-expanding possibilities of the performing arts through the Vincent Legacy Scholarship program. These scholarships are awarded to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) middle-school students who display talent, passion, and an interest in community service.
Following an application and audition, Starlight is proud to announce five Vincent Legacy Scholarship recipients in 2023:
Ashlynn Hampton – Grandview Middle School
For her audition, Ashlynn performed “Part of Your World” and also did an Ursula monologue from “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.” Through her training, she hopes to improve her breath control for vocal performances.
Elliana Hishaw – Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Middle School
For her audition, Elliana performed “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana.” Elliana was cast in The Coterie’s production of “Akeelah and the Bee.”
Garrett Webster II – Plaza Middle School
For his audition, Garrett sang, “Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me).” He has taken piano lessons previously, and through the scholarship, he is interested in taking acting classes to help him become a well-rounded “renaissance man.”
Jacob Moses – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science
For his audition, Jacob performed two contrasting monologues. He loves the process of acting and meeting new people, and enjoys seeing how each person has their own unique approach to the art.
Nevaeh Robinson – Sumner Academy of Arts & Science
For her audition, Nevaeh performed a monologue she wrote herself. She is interested in acting and dancing, but would also like to learn an instrument or explore costume and makeup design.
Starlight looks forward to celebrating this year’s recipients at the Vincent Legacy Scholarship Presentation on Saturday, July 29. The students will enjoy a catered dinner by Starlight and be publicly recognized on stage before 1776. Learn more about the scholarship program.
