Construction Brings Exciting Improvements
It’s only been three months since we broke ground for exciting improvements to Starlight Theatre, but a lot has happened in a short time!
Since October, a team with JE Dunn Construction has been working hard on Phase I of the project. Updates include:
- Adding a new parking lot and improving an existing one.
- Adding two towers to the stage house to help support a new robust production truss and light bridge for enhanced production capabilities.
- Updates to backstage areas including current dressing room and rehearsal spaces.
- Constructing footing piers to support the new canopy that will be installed for the 2026 season.
Parking Updates
Two of the largest spaces being updated are a new parking lot to the south of Starlight on Elmwood Avenue and paving the current grass lot directly to the south of the stage house. These will be ready for use in the upcoming summer season!
The new Purple Lot is located near the corner of Mall Drive and Zoo Drive, with access off Elmwood Avenue. It will contain approximately 120 spaces. A shuttle will be available to take patrons to the entrance gates on the east side of Starlight.
The lot directly to the south of Starlight will now be called the Orange Lot. Formerly grass parking, it will be paved and striped to provide a more efficient space for large events such as concerts. There will be approximately 403 spots, including 20 accessible spaces.
New Towers
Starlight’s iconic towers have stood for 75 years. When Starlight opens for the 2025 season, there will be a new set flanking the stage to help support a new production truss and light bridge!
Two of the most obvious updates Starlight audiences will see are the addition of two towers to the stage house.
In late 2024, foundations were poured to support the new towers and construction of the steel frames began.
Phase II
Phase II of the construction will begin after the 2025 season concludes. It will focus on updating the west entrance, a new kitchen, more restrooms, expanding food options, and a canopy. Construction of the canopy which will provide shade to approximately 3,200 seats and allow for matinee programming in the 2026 season.
Stay tuned for more updates this spring!
