Expect a Few New Turns on This Yellow Brick Road

Whether you hail from the Kansas or Missouri side of the state line, it’s a good bet The Wizard of Oz ranks among your favorite musicals. The new national touring production kicking off Starlight’s 2014 Broadway season June 10-15 will preserve your favorite memories (music, characters and iconic moments), while throwing in a few new elements to keep things interesting.

Developed from the ever-popular MGM screenplay, this production of The Wizard of Oz includes the beloved songs from the Oscar® award-winning movie score and adds seven new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber. IMAX-like video projections are a new highlight, too.

Starring as Dorothy is Danielle Wade, who won the role in the Canadian TV reality show “Over the Rainbow.” Wade perfected the role of Dorothy during the show’s initial run in Canada and, when the U.S. tour launched last September, she chose to continue to click her heels together for American audiences.

Reviews from media across the United States have been highly positive. The Dallas Morning News reports “the best surprise is how the show leaves you uplifted, rather than deflated when Dorothy leaves glittering Oz.” The Daily Pilot of Orange County, Calif., says “the tornado effects are awesome, seemingly sweeping up the audience along with Dorothy and Toto.” And, theFort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel advises audiences to “be prepared to fall in love all over again with The Wizard of Oz.”

All of us at Starlight – along with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, the Wicked Witch, the Wizard and Toto – look forward to welcoming you back to summer at Starlight very soon!

This summer Starlight Theatre will be staging the touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz. Bring the whole family and join Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the Wizard and obtain their hearts’ desires. The Wizard of Oz will take the Starlight stage, June 10-15, 2014.
