Go Backstage with Disney on Broadway
In celebration of Disney Theatrical Productions’ 20 years on Broadway, ABC will air “Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years,” this Sunday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. The one-hour special, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson of “Modern Family” and Darren Criss of “Glee” will explore the making of Disney’s eight Broadway ventures.
Viewers will revisit Disney’s classics, from current Broadway hits The Lion King and Aladdin and the national tour of Newsies to shows of Mickey’s past including Beauty and the Beast, Aida, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins.
“Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years,” also features music from the Disney on Broadway catalog, including special musical performances by Sir Elton John, Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen (ABC’s “Nashville”), Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins) and Adam Jacobs (Aladdin).
For the first time, viewers will have unprecedented access to the fast-paced, high-stakes world of Broadway. Backstage cameras will provide a deeper perspective on three Disney shows lighting up Broadway and cities across the country, including a view of “Friend Like Me” during an actual performance ofAladdin, a peek into an ensemble rehearsal for The Lion King and a visit with the national tour of Newsies prior to its opening night.
