In the Heights movie, A Bronx Tale, The Devil Wears Prada & Starlight’s Indoor series
These days, Lin Manuel Miranda is best known for his acting, composing and writing in Broadway's 2015 smash hit, Hamilton. However, this multi-talented Tony winner's rise to stardom began nearly 20 years ago when he started composing the music for the 2008 Tony-winning musical sensation, In the Heights. Now, Miranda will reunite with the show's original book writer to create a film adaptation of In the Heights, which is expected to premiere in June of 2020. In the Heights chronicles the lives of the many colorful residents of Washington Heights—a New York City neighborhood on the brink of change.
'A Bronx Tale' Is Closing on Broadway
After 700 performances on Broadway, A Bronx Tale closed its curtains for the final time earlier this month at the Longacre Theatre. The musical opened in late 2016 under the co-direction of Robert DeNiro, who served as the original film's director, and Jerry Zaks, who helmed the 2007 Broadway play version. Beginning in October, the show will embark on a national tour that is currently slated to run through June of 2019. This streetwise musical transports audiences to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s—where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he'd love to be.
Shaina Taub at Work on The Devil Wears Prada Musical With Elton John and Paul Rudnick
Just when we thought the creative team for the musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada couldn't get any more fabulous, singer/songwriter Shaina Taub has been tapped to serve as the show's lyricist. The former Jonathan Larson grant recipient joins legendary composer Elton John and Sister Act writer Paul Rudnick on the project, which is based on the 2003 novel and the subsequent film. Taub penned the music and lyrics for productions of Twelfth Night and As You Like It as part of the Public Works Initiative, a program that offers diverse New York communities the opportunity to create participatory theater. The show's production timeline and additional creative team members are expected to be announced in the near future.
