Chicago hits the stage at Starlight soon—this time, with a little hometown pride. Born and raised in Overland Park, Kan., Angel Reda made her professional debut at age nine in Brigadoon on the Starlight stage. Now, she will return to portray the lead role of Roxie Hart September 14-16.
Direct from Broadway, Reda is intricately familiar with all things Chicago. Throughout her time with this iconic musical, she has played or covered every female role—from Roxie to Velma, “Mama” and more. Most recently she appeared in the original Broadway cast of War Paint and is looking forward to this December’s opening of The Cher Show on the Great White Way after returning to Chicago in Kansas City.
Based on a play of the same name, Chicago is set amidst the razzle-dazzle of the 1920s, and tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines. Having just celebrated its 21st year on Broadway, this Tony, Grammy and Olivier award-winning musical has no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great—fame, fortune and all that jazz—and features all of those classic songs that audiences know and love like “Roxie,” “When You’re Good to Mama” and “Cell Block Tango.” Whether you’re looking for your first Broadway musical or whether you’ve seen it before and want to recapture the magic, Chicago always delivers.
Audiences from Mexico City to Moscow, São Paulo to South Africa and everywhere in between have raved about this iconic show and now it is Kansas City’s turn.
Chicago plays Starlight Theatre one weekend only—September 14-16. All shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $14 and are available at kcstarlight.com, by calling 816.363.7827 or visiting the ticket office at 4600 Starlight Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64132.
