Thanks to its impressive ticket sales and overall favorable reviews, Love Never Dies has quickly become one of this summer’s hottest touring productions. Michael Jackson’s Estate Is Developing a Broadway-Bound Bio-Musical
He’s “Bad” and he’s coming to Broadway! A musical exploration of the life and catalogue of Michael Jackson is expected to debut in New York City in 2020. The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage have combined their talents to develop a musical inspired by the pop icon, with two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage penning the production’s book. An American in Paris Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon has been tapped to direct and choreograph the bio-musical that’s expected to include a Michael in his 20s and 30s, as well as a younger, Jackson-5 era version of the pop star.
Workshop production of Jukebox Hero at the Jubilee gets electric response
Calling all Foreigner fans… Jukebox Hero: The Musical makes its world premiere in Canada this month at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. As part of the rock band’s 40th anniversary celebration, Jukebox Hero will play at three Canadian theatres in the coming month with eventual aims for a Broadway engagement. The musical tells the story of a struggling rust-belt town that seeks the help of its most famous son, music superstar Ryan, who must confront the ghosts of his past to help his city embrace a brighter tomorrow. The musical features sixteen of Foreigner’s most iconic hits including “I Want To Know What Love Is,“ “Waiting For A Girl Like You,“ “Hot Blooded“ and of course, “Jukebox Hero.”
2018 Vincent Legacy Scholars Honored
Starlight honored four Vincent Legacy Scholarships to local performing arts students prior to Saturday evening’s performance of Hairspray. This year’s multi-talented recipients included middle-schoolers Erica Brown, Natalia Castaneda, James Hawkins and Tahraji Milsap. Since 2006, a total of 36 Vincent Legacy Scholarships have been awarded with a combined value of 87,500 dollars. These need-based scholarships provide ethnically diverse youth who show performing arts promise the opportunity to further refine and improve their skills through professional instruction.
