Scholars Raise Their Voices – and are Heard

Breana Smith, a 2019 Vincent Legacy Scholarship winner, is the latest Starlight student to share her talents and perspectives in “Raise Our Voices.” Starlight introduced this new performance initiative in June, giving students with a connection to Starlight an opportunity to publicly share their responses to racial injustice and other social issues our nation faces. It is our hope that “Raise Our Voices” will help to inspire community action through the power of art.

Breana is the third Vincent Legacy Scholar to raise her voice. We encourage you to listen to the songs performed so beautifully by Breana, as well as by Lauren Howard (2017 scholar) and Amari Lewis (2014 scholar). And, then, take time to read the blog posts that accompanied each performance to learn why they selected their particular song and what they hope it communicates to all who listen.
