“Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! ” more Mamma Mia! A sequel to the hit movie Mamma Mia! has been confirmed and is set to premiere in July 2018 – 10 years after the original film’s release.

The 2008 Universal Pictures’ romantic comedy starred Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried, told the story of a young bride-to-be, her mother and her three potential fathers, and was set on the Greek island Kalokairi. Based upon the 1999 West End and 2001 Broadway musical of the same name, the film brought in $610 million at the box office.

Like the musical, the film’s story unfolded with songs from ‘70s pop group ABBA sprinkled throughout, and the sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, plans to do the same. The new movie will feature ABBA songs not included in the original, as well as some reprised favorites.

According to Variety, it is rumored the new movie will be a prequel to the original, revolving around Streep, Brosnan and Firth’s characters. All of the main cast plan to reprise their roles.

While you’re eagerly anticipating next year’s movie sequel, we suggest you attend the Farewell Tour of Mamma Mia! live at Starlight Theatre June 23-25. Good seats can be purchased online and at the Starlight ticket office.
