Volunteer at Starlight

Due to such a great response of applicants for our 2024 Season, we are still accepting applications but may not be able to process, train, and activate your volunteer opportunity until a later time. We will keep all applications on file and notify you when they open back up. Thank you for your interest in and support of Starlight!

Starlight’s Ambassador Program is a fun opportunity to volunteer your time and meet and greet the people of our community—plus, as an added benefit, our volunteers enjoy seeing a show under the stars. Starlight recognizes the importance of the gift of time and remains committed to being good stewards of that valuable contribution.

Our success depends on volunteers to help ensure smooth operations and enjoyable experiences for our guests, so come join the Starlight team and greet our guests with a smile!

Starlight’s volunteer Ambassadors have been a Kansas City legacy since 1959.  As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Starlight relies on the dedication of its Ambassadors to fulfill our mission of providing exceptional guests experiences.

Following are the ways you can participate:

  • Ticket Scanning & Audience Assistance
  • Usher Duties & Seating Guests
  • Guest Information Services
  • Horticulture & Groundskeeping
  • Meyer Blvd Clean-up (once a month)

Ambassador Opportunities

  • Ambassadors: Ages 18+.
  • Junior Ambassadors: Ages 16 and 17. Assist with ushering, ticket scanning, and ensuring that guests have a wonderful experience. The Junior Ambassadors program is available for Broadway show nights only. A parent must provide written approval to participate and confirm transportation is available. Junior Ambassadors are restricted from volunteering on concert nights unless they have worked in each position, worked at least two Broadway shows, and have been approved in writing by the parent or guardian and the VP of Operations at Starlight.
  • Mentors: Ambassadors who are interested in participating in the Mentor Program will be shadowed by New or Junior Ambassadors to provide hands-on training during events. We need mentors for all positions.
  • Group Volunteers: Starlight welcomes Volunteer Groups of 10 persons per Broadway performance to assist with ushering. Group volunteering is a great tool for team building, getting involved with the community, as well as introducing new people to Starlight and the Ambassador program.
  • Ambassadors must complete annual training to sign up for shifts.
  • Email notifications for Broadway and concerts will be sent as sign-ups are available.
  • All first-year Ambassadors must work two nights of Broadway, shadowing an Ambassador Mentor before being able to sign up to work independently for either Broadway or concerts.
  • You must work 5 out of the 7 Broadway shows to be invited to the post-season dinner.
  • If you are running late or unable to work the event, notify the House Manager or Operations Manager no later than one-half hour before your scheduled arrival time.
  • Repeated call-offs, absences, and/or tardiness may result in your removal from future participation in the Ambassador Program.
