As part of the 2015 Fairy Tale Festival, Starlight Theatre took the opportunity to help a fellow not-for-profit organization that makes a big impact in the greater Kansas City Area. Guests attending Cinderella at Starlight were invited – and encouraged – to bring a pair of children’s shoes to the show to donate to Operation Breakthrough.

Committed “to helping children who are living in poverty develop their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment,” Operation Breakthrough serves 400 Kansas City children. Comfortable, durable shoes are always in high demand.

Staff, volunteers and Board members from Operation Breakthrough were on hand each night of the pre-show family festival to gather donations of new and gently used children’s shoes from Starlight patrons. A total of 277 pairs of shoes were collected.

“There were so many great shoes in the mix, and they have been very well-received,” said Operation Breakthrough’s Jennifer Heinemann. “We will be giving most of them away to children going back to school. The Starlight Theatre staff could not have been any nicer to us or to our volunteers, and your audiences were very generous.”

A heartfelt Thank You to all Starlight guests who participated and helped us make a difference in our local community!
