2020 Vincent Legacy Scholarship Applications Available Now!

Application materials are now available for Starlight Theatre’s 2020 Vincent Legacy Scholarships. Established in 2006 by community leaders Greg and Rebecca Reid, the scholarships provide ethnically diverse middle school youth the opportunity to pursue professional training through singing, dancing and acting classes. Not only do scholarship winners receive financial aid for their performing arts training, but the students join a talented pool of former scholars and adult mentors whose mission is to guide and encourage the students as they advance in their careers. Now in its 15th year, Starlight has awarded 40 Vincent Legacy Scholarships to date, with a total value of $97,500. Applications for this year’s scholarship are due February 21.

‘Young Frankenstein’ Live Musical Set for ABC

ABC is ready for another live musical following its successful production of The Little Mermaid in 2019. Based on the 2007 stage version of the classic 1974 movie starring Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein Live! Is set to air this fall on the network. Mel Brooks, who wrote and directed the film and wrote the music, lyrics and book for the stage adaptation, will also produce the live version for ABC. A parody of the horror film genre, Young Frankenstein tells the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, who has started recreating his infamous grandfather’s experiments at his estate in Transylvania. We’ll keep you posted as we know more about this live event.

‘The Nanny’ Musical: Fran Drescher Explains Why ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Creator Rachel Bloom Is Perfect To Write It

One of the most beloved sitcoms of all time is rumored to be on its way to Broadway. The original creator and star of “The Nanny,” Fran Drescher, has announced that a stage adaptation is in the works and includes the team behind the CW musical comedy “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” With six successful seasons airing on CBS in the mid to late 90s, “The Nanny” tells the story of a young woman who unexpectedly gets a job as caretaker for a Broadway producer’s three children. Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls producers have signed on to the stage adaptation as well, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’s Marc Bruni is set to direct.
