This Sunday’s Academy Awards red carpet will lead to a yellow brick road as Judy Garland’s children – Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft – will appear to honor their mother’s beloved film, “The Wizard of Oz.”

The Oz-themed tribute at the ceremony commemorates the film’s 75th anniversary and fits into the award shows “heroes” theme. In January the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the theme of this year’s Oscar ceremony “will honor big-screen real-life heroes, superheroes, popular heroes and animated heroes, both past and present, as well as the bold filmmakers who bring them to life.”

The ceremony’s theme certainly applies to Dorothy, Garland’s courageous character in “Oz,” and the actress herself, whose films have charmed generations of moviegoers.

Scott Feinberg of the The Hollywood Reporter reported that the “specifics of what the commemoration will entail have not yet been locked down.”

So, the only way to find out the details of the Oz- themed tribute is to tune into the 86th Academy Awards airing live this Sunday at 7:30 pm on ABC.

This summer Starlight Theatre will be staging the touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz. Bring the whole family and join Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, as they journey through the magical land of Oz to meet the Wizard and obtain their hearts’ desires. The Wizard of Oz will takes the Starlight stage, June 10-15, 2014.
