Young Friends of Starlight (YFS) officially adopted the stretch of Meyer Boulevard right outside the entrance to Swope Park on Saturday, May 22, in partnership with Kansas City Parks and Recreation. The group took over cleaning duties from Ms. Jackson, a local resident who had generously been tending to the area solo for 38 years. YFS members now participate in a monthly cleanup of the area, including trash collection alongside Meyer Boulevard. Several YFS volunteers have cheerfully given their time to clean the adopted area with future monthly cleanups scheduled for July and beyond.

YFS members are happy to be able to give back to the neighborhood by taking care of this beloved boulevard and continuing Ms. Jackson’s work to preserve the area for years to come.

“[Ms. Jackson’s] passion for cleaning up Kansas City is infectious, and we are honored to be able to help her!” said YFS Steering Committee member Ashley Baker. “Meyer Boulevard is what a lot of people see as they are entering Starlight Theatre, so we thought this was the perfect spot to adopt and to help showcase our beautiful theatre. We hope that this will inspire other groups to do the same throughout the city, and together, we can make a meaningful impact.”

YFS is the young professionals' membership group of Starlight. The group makes Starlight events more accessible for young adults between the ages of 21-40 and provides opportunities to network, learn about various programs and develop long-lasting support for Starlight and the broader community.

The group welcomes additional volunteers who would like to help keep Meyer Boulevard clean for local residents and the visitors of Starlight.
